Barn Guestbook Archive: January — March 2003

Hi all. Just wanted to say that this is a great site. I found my wedding ceremony/reception site by posting on here. If anyone is searching for a barn for their wedding in the central NJ/PA area, then check out this web site: http://www.barnatbirchwood.com/Home.htm It's actually located in the Valley Forge area. Good luck to you all!!! :)

My husband and I recently purchased a large farm. On site is an old farm house, outhouse, cellar, smoke house, and 2 barns....one large, one medium in size. Sorry don't have exact measurements yet. We have been told that it is very common to recycle these barns and we are interested in finding out what this involves. We are told the buildings have tin roofs and are 40 to 50 years old all in different stages of disrepair. None are painted and have great seasoned wood. Any info or interested parties are welcome to email us. Thanks, Shellie

Greetings! I thought I was the only one who liked to photograph the wonderful slogan, although I primarily stay in the Hoosier State. My Grandfather is the one who got me started on this expedition. Has anyone out there made any maps to finding these things?

In regards to the question of "Why are barns red?"...My husband and I have been pondering this question for a few years and here is the best answer thus far: Animals were not only raised in the barns , but often slaughtered outside and red "paint was used to cover up the massacre...not that a 4th grader wants to hear that, but I believe that's a likely answer. let me know if you come up with the "real" answer! Thanks. kelly

I have a really cool barn in southern/central Michigan that would be a great spot for a party/ceremony/reception. We have had several Halloween parties. The upstairs has wood floors, and the downstairs a cement floor. It also has a "Mail Pouch" ad on the West side. I am also available to custom paint barns. I did mine, and I'd like to do others. I've got some really great ideas. E-mail me if interested.

I got married in a barn in April 2002. I thought it was such a novel idea. I can not believe so many people have the same idea. If anyone is interested in Texas, the Winedale Historical Center, near RoundTop, is fantastic barn already equiped with lighting, sound, and fans for summer Shakespeare plays. Check out my pictures. http://home.austin.rr.com/agnello/

This Makes a great companion to our FIRST BOOK, "How to Build & Love Your Own Round Barn", and be a wonderful addition to your library! come see when you get a round "TU-IT"

LOOKING FOR BARN STRAIGHTENING HELP/SERVICES/CONTRACTOR IN EAST TENNESSEE! I have a 30x70' barn, sitting on a block foundation, on a sloping grade. The uphill side of the block foundation is being impacted by hydraulic pressure which is compromising the foundation AND the structure sitting on it. I am looking for a contractor to stabilize, straighten and/or restore the foundation and structure. Thanks.
